Simon\u2019s background and unique access to industry figures have enabled him to assess everything from the best bespoke tailors to the value chain in luxury retail, giving his followers unvarnished reports and in-depth analysis.<\/p>\n
The access and experience comes from over a decade of using bespoke makers, visiting factories around the world and interviewing both craftsmen and designers at the world\u2019s leading manufacturers.<\/p>\n
He is now an industry figure himself, frequently called upon by brands to give them advice on social media and digital communications, as well as a style icon profiled in publications as far apart as Peru,\u00a0Spain\u00a0and\u00a0Japan.<\/p>\n
In 2010 Simon\u00a0began a series of collaborations with favourite makers, leading to unique designs for polo shirts, sweaters, cufflinks and coats\u00a0that are\u00a0offered on Permanent Style in limited runs. In each case, Simon\u2019s aim was to create the perfect garment, often identifying gaps in the brands\u2019 existing range. Several have gone on to become mainstays of those ranges.<\/p>\n
Simon is the author of eight books to date. Four were produced with publishers:\u00a0Obsessions: Tailoring<\/em>\u00a0(Hardie Grant),\u00a0Best of British: The stories behind Britain’s iconic brands<\/em>\u00a0(Prestel),\u00a0The Finest Menswear in the World: The craftsmanship of luxury<\/em>\u00a0(Thames & Hudson) and\u00a0The Sartorial Travel Guide<\/em>\u00a0(Thames & Hudson). And four have been self-published:\u00a0Permanent Style<\/em>\u00a0(2015),\u00a0The Style Guide<\/em>\u00a0(2017),\u00a0Bespoke Style<\/em>\u00a0(2020) and\u00a0The Casual Style Guide\u00a0<\/em>(2024).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Policy on comments<\/strong><\/p>\nPermanent Style encourages active\u00a0discussion\u00a0among its readers, and contributions from those around the world with specific experiences or information that inform that discussion.<\/p>\n
However, it does not permit abuse in any form, and discourages those that add nothing substantive to a discussion. Readers are also encouraged to comment on relevant posts, to build up a body of knowledge on that post over time.<\/p>\n
Beyond this, comments and discussion can also be controlled in the interests of the broader readership and aims of the site. Simon aims to curate and guide this discussion in the same way he\u00a0selects posts\u00a0to serve those interests. The dominant question is not ‘Does this person have a right to comment’ or ‘Is this critical of Simon’ but rather ‘Does the reader want to see this?’<\/p>\n
All comments are screened, and\u00a0some are not published for these reasons.<\/p>\n
Simon believes that this is\u00a0a positive\u00a0form\u00a0for a modern, digital resource: an open\u00a0website actively controlled by an authoritative figure. None of the\u00a0abuse or\u00a0digressions of a forum; better\u00a0navigability and organisation than social media.<\/p>\n
