Harper’s Bazaar<\/b><\/i>\u00a0(stylized as\u00a0Harper’s BAZAAR<\/i>) is an American monthly women’s fashion magazine. Bazaar has been published in New York City since November 2, 1867, originally as a weekly publication entitled\u00a0Harper’s Bazar<\/i>.[<\/span>2]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Originally published by\u00a0Harper & Brothers<\/a>, since 1913 the magazine has been owned and published by\u00a0Hearst<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The magazine is the world’s oldest operating women’s fashion magazine,[<\/span>3]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0and one of the first fashion magazines to be published in the United States.[<\/span>4]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[<\/span>5]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Its name change to\u00a0Harper’s Bazaar<\/i>\u00a0was filed on December 30, 1930.[<\/span>2]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0However, the first magazine under the name was November 1929.[<\/span>6]<\/span><\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

Harper’s Bazaar<\/i>\u00a0is an American women’s fashion magazine. The magazine was founded in 1867 by\u00a0Harper & Brothers<\/a>\u00a0as\u00a0Harper’s Bazar<\/i>\u00a0(and has since been operating as\u00a0Harper’s Bazaar<\/i>\u00a0since 1929); it is the oldest fashion magazine still in operation and was based off and originally the American version of the German publication\u00a0Der Bazar<\/a><\/i>.[<\/span>7]<\/span><\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

The magazine is a monthly publication, published ten times per year with merged June\/July and December\/January issues.<\/p>\n

According to the publications current editor-in-chief, Samira Nasr, “Harper’s BAZAAR<\/i>\u00a0uses fashion as a way to explore the forces shaping culture today and to tell the most urgent stories of the moment.”[<\/span>8]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Whilst the publisher and owner,\u00a0Hearst<\/a>, describes it as “the style resource for women at every age, showcasing visionary stylists, photographers and designers with authority and insider insight.”[<\/span>9]<\/span><\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

The magazine has achieved notability for its innovative art direction under art director\u00a0Alexey Brodovitch<\/a>\u00a0(who worked with the publication from 1934 to 1958).[<\/span>10]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Norman Norell<\/a>\u00a0called it “a photographer’s magazine” in reference to its innovative photography.[<\/span>10]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Along with this the reinvention of the magazine under editor-in-chief\u00a0Liz Tilberis<\/a>, and art director\u00a0Fabien Baron<\/a>\u00a0who wanted to make it into ”the most beautiful fashion magazine in the world.”[<\/span>11]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[<\/span>12]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Is regarded as turning it back into a fashion publishing industry powerhouse.[<\/span>11]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The magazine is also considered as the long-time rival to\u00a0Vogue<\/a><\/i>.[<\/span>13]<\/span><\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
