Kamars

The Kamars

Kamars, named after Chiusi in Etruscan, is Flavio Ferdinando Foderini’s artistic ceramics workshop. Founded in 1958 by his father Fernando, along with Maestro Don Manfredo Coltellini, it was the first art workshop to open in the municipality of Chiusi. Even today, its work is based on the characteristics of the Tuscan Renaissance artisan workshops, which reached their peak with Luca della Robbia in the 15th century. Family-run, meticulous learning of the craft, and rigorous execution of each piece are the “rules” passed down from father to son, along with the secrets borne of over half a century of experience.

Flavio Ferdinando is a young craftsman passionate about art and ancient and modern majolica, a great connoisseur and a keen experimenter. The primordial elements of air, earth, water, and fire, expertly crafted at Kamars, give life to an artistic collection embodying all the values of our tradition, appreciated in Italy and around the world.

We’d be happy to welcome you and guide you through the “Workshop Cycle,” from the clay to the finished work. We’ll show you our production, revealing sacred images, ancient and modern art, personalized plates, Etruscan art, tourist ceramics, wedding lists, terracotta, and many other curiosities to turn your every idea into reality!

Kamars, the Etruscan name for the town of Chiusi in Tuscany, is a renowned pottery workshop owned by Flavio Ferdinando Foderini. Founded in 1958 jointly by his father, Ferdinand senior, and the master craftsman Don Manfredo Coltellini, it is the oldest workshop in the area of Chiusi.  The pottery is still based on the historic features of that of the Tuscan renaissance, as seen in the successes of Lucca della Robbia during the 1400s.

The family traditions, meticulous attention to detail and the rigor of hand-made production techniques form a rich heritage created over more than half a century which has been handed down from father to son.

Flavio Ferdinando is an expert in the historic artistic traditions of Tuscany and is able to bring these together with more modern techniques to make original works of art. The primordial elements of air, earth, water and fire, are skilfully molded by Kamars to give life to an artistic collection built on the historic values of the rich Tuscan pottery tradition as appreciated throughout Italy and indeed the world.

You will be most welcome to visit the workshop and showroom to see first hand how the pottery starts as a simple piece of clay and is transformed into a finished work of art. The collection includes sacred images, ancient and modern art, Etruscan reproductions, personalized pieces, traditional Tuscan ceramics, terracotta and it is even possible to commission an original piece, any of which would be a perfect souvenir of your stay in Tuscany.
