New York City Children\u2019s Theater inspires young people\u2019s imaginations and supports social and emotional growth through original theatrical experiences on stage, in schools, and in our community.<\/p>\n
We reach children and their communities with a wide range of programming, including full-scale productions, small touring shows, interactive workshops and in-school residencies, and engage with them in traditional theater spaces, school auditoriums, classrooms and cultural venues in their neighborhoods.<\/p>\n
We demonstrate that engaging young people in the arts has a positive impact on their cognitive, emotional and social development, and furthers a lifelong appreciation of the arts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Support Our Work<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n About New York City Children\u2019s Theater<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n New York City Children\u2019s Theater programs cultivate children\u2019s growth in the areas of:<\/strong><\/p>\n The result is empathetic, creative and independent thinkers who make a positive impact on their world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Our History<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n NYC Children\u2019s Theater began in 1996, as\u00a0Making Books Sing<\/em>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0the family theater and education program of the Tony Award-winning Vineyard Theatre. It became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit in\u00a02001.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n Over the last 27 years, our local and nationally recognized arts-in-education programs and professional theater productions have served over\u00a0420,000 children and adults<\/strong>, across all five boroughs and surrounding communities in the Tri-State area. By partnering with more than\u00a0550 elementary schools and homeless shelters<\/strong>, and providing\u00a0subsidized tickets to over 120,000 students and families<\/strong>\u00a0for our professional shows, we have increased arts accessibility for underserved communities in New York City.<\/p>\n We create and premiere more original work for young audiences than any other company in the city.
