The theatre, with a spectacular view of the Great White Way, derives its name from Sam Minskoff and Sons, builders and owners of the high-rise that houses it, who run it with the Nederlander Organization.<\/p>\n<p>The theatre features a pedestrian arcade that runs from 44th to 45th Streets. Inside the spacious lobby, dual escalators take audiences to the third level of the Grand Foyer, where there are a coat check, concessions and bars. Additional escalators rise to the fourth, or orchestra, level. The stage is unique: All the flies are on the upstage wall instead of on the side wall.<\/p>\n<p>The theatre\u2019s current tenant,\u00a0<em>The Lion King<\/em><em>,<\/em>\u00a0opened at the New Amsterdam but transferred here in June 2006. The most recent attractions here have been\u00a0<em>Fiddler on the Roof<\/em><em>;<\/em>\u00a0<em>Dance of the Vampires<\/em><em>;<\/em>\u00a0<em>The Adventures of Tom Sawyer<\/em><em>;<\/em>\u00a0<em>Saturday Night Fever<\/em><em>;<\/em>\u00a0<em>The Scarlet Pimperne<\/em>l;\u00a0<em>Sunset<\/em><em>\u00a0Boulevard<\/em>\u00a0(the house\u2019s seating capacity was enlarged to accommodate this Andrew Lloyd Webber hit); the revival of Lloyd Webber\u2019s\u00a0<em>Joseph\u00a0<\/em><em>and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat<\/em><em>;<\/em>\u00a0<em>Metro<\/em>, a spectacular musical from Poland; Cathy Rigby in a return engagement of\u00a0<em>Peter Pan<\/em><em>;<\/em>\u00a0and the long-running revue\u00a0<em>Black and Blue<\/em><em>,<\/em>\u00a0winner of three Tonys.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the 1980s included a well-received new production of\u00a0<em>West Side Story<\/em>\u00a0starring Debbie Allen;\u00a0<em>The Pirates of Penzance<\/em>, winner of three Tonys; three short-lived musicals\u2014<em>Dance<\/em><em>\u00a0a Little Closer<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Marilyn: An American Fable<\/em><em>,<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Teddy &amp; Alice<\/em>;\u00a0<em>The\u00a0<\/em><em>Tap Dance Kid<\/em>;\u00a0<em>Sweet Charity<\/em>; and\u00a0<em>Cabaret<\/em>. Personal appearances were made here by The Four Tops, The Temptations, Patti LaBelle, and Peter, Paul and Mary.<\/p>\n<p>During the 1970s, the Minskoff played host to\u00a0<em>Charles Aznavour on Broadway<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Tony Bennett and Lena Horne Sing<\/em>. Henry Fonda starred in his one-man show,\u00a0<em>Clarence Darrow<\/em>, and Bette Midler clowned in\u00a0<em>Clams on the Half Shell<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In 1979, the theatre housed\u00a0<em>B\u00e9jart: Ballet of the Twentieth Century,<\/em>\u00a0<em>Got Tu Go Disco<\/em>, and\u00a0<em>Englebert on Broadway<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In 1978, Rudolf Nureyev danced here, followed by\u00a0<em>Angel<\/em><em>;<\/em>\u00a0a musical version of the play\u00a0<em>Look Homeward, Angel<\/em><em>;<\/em>\u00a0the musical\u00a0<em>King of Hearts<\/em><em>,<\/em>\u00a0based on the Alan Bates film; and\u00a0<em>Ice Dancing<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In 1975, Pearl Bailey and Billy Daniels brought their production of\u00a0<em>Hello, Dolly!<\/em>\u00a0to this theatre, followed by a rock version of\u00a0<em>Hamlet<\/em>\u00a0called\u00a0<em>Rockabye Hamlet,\u00a0<\/em>with Meat Loaf playing a priest.
